Sandy Shevack earned a Doctorate of Education in 2018. He teaches Sociology courses at Montclair State University, William Paterson University, and Ramapo College. He obtained grants for NGOs in Mayan Guatemalan communities to construct three schools and volunteered to work on a Sandinista farm in Nicaragua. Sandy participated in bringing medical supplies into Cuba and El Salvador. His non-profit organization, the Juvenile Education and Awareness Project hired over 80 male and female Passaic youths to learn carpentry skills as they helped renovate 4 buildings in Passaic into affordable housing and a facility to house the Angela’s Kidz Preschool. Sandy coordinated the painting of 11 social justice-themed murals in Passaic. His NGO sponsors the Bella Chanel Mentoring Program within their community center at 40 Market Street, Passaic. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the IMPACT Repertory Theatre of Harlem. Sandy received the 2000 Russ Berrie “Unsung Hero” finalist award.
