Spring Crew

Spring interns are in the unique position of helping to “wake up” our farms as we begin to usher in the new production season. Therefore, tasks these interns participate in include, starting seeds in our greenhouse, preparing and uncovering our raised beds for planting and managing the high volume of volunteers that come to help in. This year, our interns will also have the opportunity to learn more intensive greenhouse management. We will be working in the Van Vleck Greenhouse, on Mondays and Thursdays seeding and caring for upwards of 45 plant varieties for our spring plant sale and for donations to other organizations.

Additionally, spring interns will become well-versed in volunteer management due to the groups both large and small that come to our farm to volunteer. Often, volunteers who arrive at our farm have never experienced working with soil and other organic materials and are not versed in physical labor. Due to this, our spring interns also act as educators for the volunteers who arrive at their farm, they will assist in leading farm tours and on-site educational instruction. At MEVO, we train and treat our interns as members of our staff, and as such, we equip them with the skills necessary to help the day operations of MEVO run smoothly.

*The spring internship may be particularly attractive to those that have a vested interest or curiosity in farming and how to start one. In the spring they learn how the farm begins anew, hence experiencing some of the most vital tasks that must be done on a farm to ensure success during the growing season.
